Kshema Flutes

The Kshema Flute Quartet was formed in 2000 after an inspirational flute study tour to London and Paris.  The Kshema flautists are all music teachers and performers who live in Adelaide, South Australia and have a strong love of playing within a flute quartet.  We are committed to continuing to develop as an ensemble and have a strong focus on exploring music by contemporary composers in a variety of different styles.

We are all graduates of the Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide and have studied with teachers such as Louise Dellit, Elizabeth Koch, Zdenek Bruderhans and Michael Scott.

Kshema performs in a variety of settings such as formal recitals, weddings and various functions.  Kshema is a Sanskrit word meaning "the place your soul calls home".

In July 2006, Kshema were the winners of the Sydney Flute Festival Ensembles Competition!

In 1996, Ann-Marie received the Associate Diploma in Music for her flute performance from the Australian Music Examinations Board.  After completing this exam, she then traveled with the Flutes of Adelaide to Paris and London.  She attended the William Bennett Summer School, played for Michael Cox (principal flute in the BBC Symphony) in his masterclass at the Royal Academy of Music and also attended masterclasses with Kirsten Spratt in London and Sophie Cherrier at the Paris Conservatoire.  Since that time, she has continued to enhance her musical education by attending and performing in as many courses as possible, both with interstate and international artists

Ann-Marie's love of ensemble playing and her desire for more performance work lead her to forming the flute quartet.  In conjunction with the other founding members, Kshema was developed and the ambitions for the quartet grew.  The quartet has continued to grow and expand over the years and is always seeking new opportunities.
